Claire Owens is a communications strategist who excels at leading communications programs for nonprofit organizations and foundations. She aids organizations with the planning, creation, and implementation of digital strategies focused on email growth, social media presence, and press relations.
Claire has worked with leading, nationally recognized nonprofit organizations including Wounded Warrior Project, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, iMentor, the Ebola Fund, and Population Reference Bureau. During her time at Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, Claire helped organize and execute the first of its kind “Commander in Chief Forum” broadcast on NBC featuring the two 2016 presidential candidates. She also led the growth of the organization’s social media presence to over a half a million followers by telling stories of veterans and their families, providing real-world resources, and sharing the organization’s efforts to lobby Congress and lawmakers across the country to support the needs of the nation’s over 18 million veterans. At Wounded Warrior Project, Claire has provided direct communication to hundreds of thousands of veterans and family support members across the U.S., providing services and support that fosters camaraderie in the community. Prior to working with nonprofits, she worked with regulatory compliance consulting firms to create internal programs for SEC registered investment advisors and wrote technical articles and white papers which were distributed to thousands of readers on a variety of governmental financial compliance issues.
She has worked in New York City newsrooms to support assignment desk operations, has served as an Editorial Assistant to an accredited White House Correspondent, and has established relationships with city, state, and national press.
Claire has a BA in Communications, Broadcast Journalism from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in the Bronx, NY. She lives in the Hudson Valley in New York where she is a caregiver for her disabled mother and spends her time cooking, baking, and spoiling her dog Birdie and cats Linus and Olive.
